Sophia Kamran

Academic History

Sophia Kamran, MD, is Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School and a practicing Radiation Oncologist at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Boston, MA. She is also an Associate Member of the Broad Institute of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard, Cambridge, MA. She holds numerous leadership and editorial roles, including GU Associate Section Editor for Practical Radiation Oncology and Editorial Board Member for Clinical Genitourinary Cancer.

Dr Kamran earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School, where she also completed a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Fellowship. She subsequently completed a transitional year internship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY, followed by residency training in Radiation Oncology through the Harvard Radiation Oncology Program, with clinical rotations at both Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, MA.

Speaking on innovations in radiation oncology for genitourinary malignancies

Dr Kamran specializes in the treatment of genitourinary (GU) cancers and is a leading clinician-scientist focused on advancing precision radiation oncology. Her research integrates computational genomics and translational science to characterize tumor evolution, understand resistance mechanisms, and identify biomarkers predictive of toxicity and treatment response following radiation and chemoradiation. Her work aims to guide the development of biomarker-driven, high-precision radiation strategies for personalized treatment of GU malignancies, including bladder, prostate, and testicular cancers.
