Academic History

Tian Zhang, MD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, TX, and Associate Director of Clinical Research in the Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dallas, TX. She completed her medical degree at Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, before pursuing an internal medicine residency at Duke University, Durham, NC, further specializing in hematology-oncology through a fellowship. In 2019, she earned a Master of Health Sciences in the Clinical Research Training Program at Duke University.

Dr Zhang specializes in the treatment of genitourinary malignancies, including kidney, bladder, and prostate cancers. Her clinical and translational research focuses on novel therapeutic strategies, biomarker development, and optimizing treatment sequencing in metastatic disease. She has led multiple clinical trials evaluating immune checkpoint inhibitors, targeted therapies, and novel drug combinations to improve patient outcomes. Dr Zhang is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), and the Chinese American Hematology and Oncology Network (CAHON), among several other professional organizations. She also serves on multiple committees, including as Co-chair of the National Cancer Institute Genitourinary (GU) Steering Committee Renal Task Force.

Dr Zhang conducts research on predictive biomarkers and the development of combination therapies in genitourinary cancers. She is actively involved in national and international oncology collaborations, contributing to clinical design and translational research initiatives. As an investigator in multiple ongoing trials, she is dedicated to advancing precision medicine and improving personalized treatment approaches for patients with advanced kidney, bladder, and prostate cancers.
