Academic History

Tony Mok, MD, FRCP(C), FRCP(Edin), FHKCP, FHKAM, FASCO, BMSc, is Li Shu Fan Medical Foundation endowed Professor and Chairman of the Department of Clinical Oncology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Prof. Mok obtained his medical degree from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, and completed a fellowship in Medical Oncology at the Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, Canada.

He is a Fellow and member of the Board of Director for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and a Past President of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer.

Speaking on biomarkers and targeted therapy in lung cancer

Prof. Mok’s main research focus lies in the development of targeted therapies for lung cancers. He has led and co-led several international clinical trials which have helped define clinical practice, including KEYNOTE-042, IMPRESS and FASTACT 2. He was the Principal Investigator and first author for the landmark IPASS trial, which showed for the first time that a targeted therapy improved outcomes over standard chemotherapy in patients with EGFR-positive non-small cell lung cancer. In addition, he has an interest in precision oncology and carries out research to understand which patients may respond best to different treatments.
