Academic History

Umang Swami, MD, MS, FASCO, is an Associate Professor in the Division of Oncology at the University of Utah’s Huntsman Cancer Institute, Salt Lake City, UT. He is the Section Lead for the Genitourinary Disease Group and leads the Genitourinary Clinical Trials Research Group. Dr Swami completed his medical degree at Sawai Man Singh Medical College, Jaipur, India, followed by a residency in Internal Medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital in New York, NY. Following this, he completed a fellowship in Hematology & Oncology and a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation at the University of Iowa College of Public Health, Iowa City, IA.

Dr Swami is an active member of several international organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the American Association for Cancer Research, European Society for Medical Oncology, and has been recognized as a Fellow of ASCO. He also serves on several ASCO guideline panels and is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Guidelines Panel for Bladder and Penile Cancers.

Speaking on novel treatments in prostate cancer

Dr Swami’s research focuses on novel treatments in genitourinary cancers, with an emphasis on drug development in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. He has led and collaborated on several investigator-initiated early-phase clinical trials evaluating novel agents and novel combinations, including radioligands and theranostics. He also has been involved in several real-world outcomes studies to examine how existing therapy sequences benefit patients.
