Academic History

Zev Wainberg, MD, is Professor of Medicine at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), CA, and co-director of the UCLA GI Oncology Program. He obtained his medical degree at the Sackler School of Medicine, Tel Aviv, Israel, and subsequently completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, NY. Prof. Wainberg also completed his fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the UCLA School of Medicine.

Speaking on developments in gastrointestinal cancer management

Prof. Wainberg is involved in early-phase clinical trials targeting pancreatic, esophageal, gastric, colon, and related cancers. Key lab work includes molecular profiling and gene expression studies to identify novel therapeutic targets, studying cancer stem cells, and developing antibody-based therapies. He also leads efforts to understand and modulate the tumor microenvironment, as well as how immunosuppression mediated by molecules such as adenosine in pancreatic cancer.
