Georgina Long, MD, PhD, from the University of Sydney, Sydney, Australia, discusses preventing melanoma though public health education at the European Cancer Congress of the European Cancer Organisation (ECCO) 2017 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is currently predicted that the number of new cases of melanoma will peak, and then will steadily drop. This is a result to improved preventative strategies, and better public health education. In Australia, the number of cases has already peaked, and will soon drop. This is thought to be largely due to the banning of tanning beds, which has not yet happened in Europe.
