ASCO 2022 | The future role of organ preservation in rectal cancer

Jean-Pierre Gerard, MD, Centre Antoine Lacassagne, Nice, France, describes novel advances in organ preservation for patients with rectal cancer. With the technology being relatively recent in its development, further research will aim to apply the technique in larger tumors. Frequent examinations and monitoring in patients is additionally essential to improve outcomes and using technologies such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Immunoscore, and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) will improve accuracy when assessing responses. This interview took place at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2022 Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL.
