WCM/EADO 2021 | Current surgical strategies for metastatic melanoma

Piotr Rutkowski, MD, PhD, Maria Sklodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology, Warsaw, Poland, summarizes his highlights from a symposium on surgery for metastatic melanoma during the 2021 World Congress of Melanoma. He discusses the importance of sentinel node biopsy in the staging of melanoma and how the surgical approach has recently changed based on the results of the DeCOG-SLT (NCT02434107) and MSLT-II (NCT00297895) trials. In addition, Dr. Rutkowski discusses treatment options for in-transit and stage IV metastatic melanoma, as well as the potential role of neoadjuvant therapy. This interview took place during the 10th World Congress of Melanoma in conjunction with the 17th EADO Congress Interactive Virtual Meeting.
