SABCS 2023 | Challenges associated with the management of DCIS

Seema Khan, MD, Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, IL, discusses the challenges associated with managing Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS). The management is controversial due to the varied course of DCIS and ongoing research on its biology. Some women with low-risk DCIS may not require treatment, and trials are underway to assess the necessity of treatment. The challenge lies in determining the right treatment based on the degree of benefit. Prof. Khan emphasizes the need to tailor treatment to the patient and her specific lesion, highlighting the importance of tools like the DCIS score in informing recurrence risk.
