ESMO Breast 2025 | Advancing research in leptomeningeal disease from registries to clinical trials

Evangelia Razis, MD, PhD, Hygeia Hospital, Marousi, Greece, outlines the current landscape and challenges in studying leptomeningeal disease (LMD) in breast cancer. Limited patient eligibility, lack of standardized endpoints, and low industry engagement have hindered clinical trial development in this rare and late-stage complication. Real-world data from registries and ongoing efforts by collaborative groups and regulatory bodies will aim to standardize trial criteria and promote inclusion of patients with LMD in future prospective studies. This interview took place at the 2025 European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Breast Cancer Annual Congress in Munich, Germany.
