Jens Hoeppner, MD, University of Bielefeld, Bielefeld, Germany, comments on the effectiveness of chemotherapy and radiation in controlling distant tumor recurrence in esophageal adenocarcinoma, highlighting the superiority of the FLOT regimen over traditional treatments. Dr Hoeppner notes that the addition of durvalumab to the FLOT regimen will further improve survival rates, and that nivolumab’s systemic action is in line with the data presented on the Phase III ESOPEC trial (NCT02509286), suggesting a promising approach to distant tumor control. This interview took place during the 2025 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
