GU Cancers 2026 | Drivers of poorer bladder cancer outcomes in women

Armine Smith, MD, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD, comments on the factors contributing to worse outcomes in women with bladder cancer, including delays in referrals to urologists and biological pathways, as well as anatomical and surgical factors that can lead to under-sampling and under-staging of the disease. These issues can arise early in treatment, such as during transurethral removal of bladder tumors. This interview took place at the 2026 ASCO GU Cancers Symposium in San Francisco, CA.
