ASCO 2024 | Factors influencing choice between FET-PET and T1Gd-MRI in re-irradiation of recurrent glioblastoma

Ilinca Popp, MD, from University Medical Center Freiburg, Freiburg, Germany, discusses factors influencing the choice between FET-PET and T1Gd-MRI for target volume delineation in re-irradiation of recurrent glioblastoma (rGBM). She emphasizes the importance of selecting the appropriate imaging modality based on the patient’s characteristics and clinical questions. In their Phase II trial (NCT01252459) trial, only PET-positive patients were included, indicating enhancement in PET imaging. While PET investigations have demonstrated good sensitivity and specificity, the trial focused on the differences in volume delineation between PET and MRI. Although the volumes differed, they were in close proximity, suggesting comparable dose distributions. Dr. Popp highlights the role of multiparametric MRI and PET investigations in assessing their significance in different patient subgroups.This interview took place during the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
