ESMO 2026 | Phase Ib/IIa trial of fostrox and lenvatinib in advanced HCC

Hong Jae Chon, MD, PhD, CHA University, Seongnam, South Korea, discusses findings from a Phase Ib/IIa trial (NCT03781934) of fostroxacitabine bralpamide (fostrox) and lenvatinib in second-line advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), highlighting the combination therapy’s encouraging anti-tumor activity with an objective response rate of 24% and median progression-free survival of 6.7 months. Dr Chon notes that the addition of fostrox to lenvatinib may provide additional clinical benefit compared to lenvatinib alone, with a manageable safety profile and no evidence of treatment-related deterioration in liver function. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2026 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
