BTOG 2022 | Improving patient outcomes with prehabilitation

Matthew Evison, MD, University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester, UK, discusses the role of prehabilitation in patient care in the field of lung cancer. Prehabilitation, which involves physically and mentally preparing patients for cancer treatment, has proven to reduce hospital stays and post-operative complications in a meta-analysis and current attempts at building a scalable and robust model for prehabilitation have been successful. With the cooperation of community facilities in Manchester, 2000 patients who underwent prehabilitation resulted in a reduction in the need for critical care as well developing long term fitness habits. This interview took place at the 20th Annual British Thoracic Oncology Group (BTOG) Conference 2022.
