Piotr Rutkowski, MD, PhD, Maria Sklodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology, Warsaw, Poland, discusses his stance on achieving the optimal oncological outcome following whoops surgery in patients with soft tissue sarcoma (STS). Supported by numerous systematic reviews and meta-analyses, Prof. Rutkowski advocates for a treatment regimen of pre-operative radiotherapy and re-excision which has been found to improve disease-free survival (DFS) and local relapse-free survival in patients who underwent unplanned primary excision. This interview took place at the ESMO Sarcoma and Rare Cancers Congress 2023 in Lugano, Switzerland.
