Nikhil Mayor, MD, Imperial College London, London, UK, discusses the IP8-FLUORESCE study (ISRCTN21536411), which assessed the use of fluorescence confocal microscopy (FCM) for intraoperative assessment of positive surgical margins following radical prostatectomy, The multicenter trial compared FCM to standard histopathology in real-time specimen analysis. While FCM did not meet sensitivity expectations for detecting all margin lengths, it showed high specificity and accuracy, particularly for margins less than or equal to 3 mm. This interview took place at the 2025 European Association of Urology (EAU) Congress in Madrid, Spain.
