BCC 2021 | Breast surgery de-escalation: can we omit surgery altogether?

Marios Tasoulis, MD, PhD, FEBS, FRCS, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK, talks on the surgical advancements he would like to see in breast cancer management in the next few years. Omission of axillary dissection was a popular topic at the St. Gallen Consensus Session 2021. Dr Tasoulis believes that further research into de-escalation of breast surgery is now needed. Several studies assessing the safety of complete omission of surgery based on pathological complete response status are under way. This interview took place during the 17th St. Gallen International Breast Cancer Conference.
