GU Cancers 2023 | Genomic landscape and tumor neoantigen burden for penile squamous cell cancer

Andrea Necchi, MD, Vita-Salute San Raffaele University and IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital and Scientific Institute, Milan, Italy, discusses the genomic landscape of penile squamous cell cancer. Cases with high and intermediate tumor neoantigen burden (TNB) were analysed, discovering that characteristics associated with higher TNB included mutations in the PIK3CA gene and KMT2D gene as well as HPV+ status. Dr Necchi suggests further study on the patient population with HPV+, TNB high, PIK3CA tumors. Additionally, germline mutations in the same population were investigated, revealing potential for genetic counselling for unique tumor mutations in this specific population of penile cancer patients. This interview took place at the ASCO GU Cancers Symposium 2023 in San Francisco, CA.
