ESMO 2023 | Enhancing patient education in breast cancer treatment

Janice Wing-Hang Tsang, MBBS, MRCP, FRCP, University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China, discusses the relevance of the IMPACT (NCT04030728) and PRECYCLE (NCT03220178) trials’ results, explaining how they could contribute to new, standardized methods of patient education. Despite a short follow-up time, IMPACT resulted in fewer patients discontinuing treatment use and PRECYCLE (which focussed specifically on using the eHealth application CANKADO to deliver this education) reduced deterioration rates and side effects and improved quality of life. These trials pose important considerations regarding the delivery of patient education; a better understanding of disease status and patients’ and families’ attitudes are required to deliver successful, holistic care. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2023 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
