He highlights that many patients fall outside the screening criteria because they are either younger, older, or have never smoked. Dr Zulueta emphasizes the need for new approaches to identify individuals missed by current screening criteria, such as using incidental lung nodule programs that depend on imaging tests, as well as the importance of updating screening guidelines, with research into factors like pollution.
