ASCO GI 2023 | Final surgical results in patients with rectal cancer from the OPERA trial

Arthur Myint, MBBS, FRRP, FFRCS, FRCR, FICS, The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Cambridge, UK, summarizes final surgical salvage results from the Phase III OPERA trial (NCT02505750), which investigated the efficacy of contact X-ray brachytherapy (CXB) with chemoradiotherapy versus external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) in rectal cancer. For patients who may have progressed on initial treatment, salvage therapy has shown to improve outcomes in this group of patients. This interview took place at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2023 Gastrointestinal Cancers (GI) Symposium in San Francisco, CA.
