ESMO 2026 | Persisting EGFR-mutant ctDNA may guide treatment selection in NSCLC

Martin Sebastian, MD, Goethe University Frankfurt, Frankfurt am Main, Germany, comments on the implications of persisting EGFR mutant circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) as a prognostic biomarker in EGFR-mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), highlighting that patients with this characteristic may not respond well to TKI monotherapy and may require alternative treatment approaches, such as TKI plus chemotherapy. Further analysis of specimens using next-generation sequencing (NGS) may help identify clusters and prognostic factors to guide treatment decisions. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2026 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
