WCLC 2026 | Ultra-sensitive MRD assays in NSCLC to monitor response to treatment and surgery

Luis Raez, MD, FACP, FASCO, Memorial Cancer Institute, Pembroke Pines, FL, discusses the use of ultra-sensitive minimal residual disease (MRD) assays in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Dr Raez highlights the many uses of MRD assays, including to identify patients who have not been cured by surgery and require additional treatment, to identify patients experiencing a recurrence and to track response to treatment. The assay has been found to be around 80% accurate, which is improved compared with older MRD assays, use of which was limited by sensitivity issues. This interview took place at the IASLC 2026 World Conference on Lung Cancer congress in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
