Catherine Oakley, PhD, UK Oncology Nursing Society (UKONS) President 2014–2016 Guy’s and from St Thomas’ Hospital, London, UK, discusses a session she chaired which focused on patients who have myeloma. The session included a discussion on how treatment for myeloma is changing. Patients are living longer, with more uncertainty as they undergo more lines of treatment and not knowing when it will end for them. There was also talk about supportive care needs of patients and how specialists interact better with patients and communicate well with them, focusing on their needs as an individual. It is important to find a balance between technical care and psycho-social care. Recorded at the 2016 Annual Conference of the UK Oncology Nursing Society (UKONS), held in Brighton, UK.
