GU Cancers 2023 | In which situations can a partial nephrectomy be effective?

Mark Wayne Ball, MD, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, discusses which patients with kidney cancer may benefit from partial nephrectomy. Those with favourable-risk disease with good performance status and primary disease with limited volume metastatic disease particularly benefit from partial nephrectomy. The majority of patients with metastatic disease undergo radical nephrectomy, however some may benefit from partial nephrectomy if the patients’ tumor is amenable to partial nephrectomy, as well as those with borderline kidney function. This interview took place at the ASCO GU Cancers Symposium 2023 in San Francisco, CA.
