GU Cancers 2025 | Localized gemcitabine delivery in low-grade upper tract urothelial carcinoma

Marie-Pier St-Laurent, MD, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, discusses the potential advantages of localized gemcitabine delivery (ST-02) for treating low-grade, non-invasive upper tract urothelial carcinoma. Unlike systemic chemotherapy or immunotherapy, this novel approach aims to prolong tumor exposure to the drug whilst minimizing systemic toxicity. Given gemcitabine’s strong safety profile in bladder cancer, this method may offer an effective and well-tolerated alternative, improving patient outcomes and quality of life. This interview took place at the ASCO GU Cancers Symposium 2025 in San Francisco, CA.
