EONS 2018 | Promoting nurse-led services in oncology

Matthew Fowler, BScN, MSc, from the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, Birmingham, UK, shares insights from the European Oncology Nurses Society (EONS) session on nurse-led cancer services, held at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2018 Congress in Munich, Germany. Mr Fowler discusses his positive experiences of working as part of a medical team, who have provided support to allow for nurses to take on advanced practises, such as non-medical prescribing and chemotherapy administration. Due to such initiatives, many clinics are now nurse-led and there are numerous programmes in place to encourage and support nurses to take on additional qualifications and roles.
