BTOG 2019 | Accelerate, Coordinate, Evaluate (ACE) cancer care: the CRUK programme streamlining the care pathway

“The Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Accelerate, Coordinate, Evaluate (ACE) programme, in partnership with the NHS and Macmillan Cancer Support, aims to improve services innovations within the NHS. Here, Sara Hiom, BSc, from CRUK, London, UK, discusses the programme and its work. This includes assessing the clinical and economic effectiveness of Multidisciplinary Diagnostic Centres (MDCs), which aim to speed up the pathway to diagnosis. An interim report on the MDC model suggest that they have a ‘positive impact on the time to diagnosis by providing a rapid referral pathway for patients with non-specific but concerning symptoms who are currently not well served by existing referral routes’. This interview took place at the British Thoracic Oncology Group (BTOG) 2019 Annual Conference in Dublin, Ireland.
