WCLC 2023 | Improving informed consent for lung cancer clinical trials

Bellinda Kallimanis, PhD, LUNGevity Foundation, Tarpon Springs, FL, discusses recent research in improving informed consent in clinical trials for lung cancer. Interviews with a range of industry partners such as ethicists, stakeholders, regulators and triallists were conducted to gain perspectives on the development of patient pamphlets to provide more information about clinical trial medicines. Whilst no general consensus has been found in the best strategy for the pamphlets, an online survey for caregivers and patients was valuable in demonstrating a common preference for short text and bulleted lists. Dr Kallimanis comments on the current goal to create hypothetical pamphlets for patients and caregivers to review. This interview took place at the 2023 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) in Singapore, Singapore.
