WCLC 2023 | How does pleural effusion influence the treatment and prognosis of lung cancer?

YC Gary Lee, MBChB, PhD, FCCP, FRCP, FRACP, University of Western Australia, Perth, Australia, explains the impact of pleural effusion on the treatment and prognosis of lung cancer. Patients with malignant pleural effusions from lung cancer have some of the worst prognoses compared to other malignant pleural diseases. Pleural effusion is a very significant event which often indicates an incurable cancer. Dr Lee suggests that the care for patients with lung cancer and pleural effusion should focus on controlling the symptoms and improving patients’ quality of life. This interview took place at the 2023 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) in Singapore, Singapore.
