AUA 2022 | MRI-targeted biopsies and overdiagnosis in prostate cancer

Andrew Vickers, PhD, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York City, NY, compares the use of MRI-targeted biopsies to systematic biopsies for detecting high-grade prostate cancer and discusses how to tackle the risk of over-treatment and overdiagnosis. Dr Vickers also explains the possible uses of MRI in prostate cancer treatment and diagnosis, as well as discussing a variety of recent studies which have shown the benefit of doing an MRI targeted biopsy rather than a systematic biopsy to detect high-grade cancers. This interview took place at the American Urological Association annual congress 2022 in New Orleans and online.
