SABCS 2024 | Phenotypic changes in breast cancer following CDK4/6 inhibitor and endocrine therapy

Francesco Schettini, MD, PhD, Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain, comments on the preliminary analysis of molecular and genomic changes in breast cancer tumors before and after CDK4/6 inhibitor and endocrine therapy. In patients with paired biopsies, a significant shift toward the HER2-enriched subtype and reduced expression of proliferation- and estrogen-related genes was observed. These findings suggest phenotypic changes may underlie resistance mechanisms, potentially influencing responses to chemotherapy versus endocrine-based strategies. This interview took place at the 2024 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) congress in San Antonio, TX.
