MetAlert: melanoma progression and response to therapy

Marisol Soengas, PhD, National Cancer Research Center, Madrid, Spain, discusses an experiment in which mice were used as models to understand how melanomas metastasise. Dr Soengas briefly explains the process of metastasis and highlights that the experiment was able to help identify midkine, a protein that favours metastasis of melanomas by promoting evasion of the immune system. Consequently, it was possible to identify genes that predict resistance to immune checkpoint blockade. This interview took place during the 7th Immunotherapy of Cancer Conference (ITOC) 2020.
