David Baldwin, MD, FRCP, Nottingham University Hospitals, Nottingham, UK, discusses some of the key factors and challenges that must be taken into consideration to ensure the successful implementation of large-scale CT screening programs for lung cancer. He describes the importance of proper participant selection and ensuring that key demographics at greater risk of developing lung cancer are encouraged to take part in screening programs. In the UK, the national Targeted Lung Health Check screening programme is underway, however, hardware and personnel capacity remain key challenges than must be addressed before the program can be fully implemented.
