Brain metastases remain a major hurdle in optimizing patient outcomes in melanoma and current checkpoint inhibitors such as ipilimumab and nivolumab as well as targeted therapies have limited efficacy in the brain. Bently Doonan, MD, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL, discusses strategies to target melanoma brain metastases. Treating brain metastases remain an unmet need, where they can materialize even during melanoma treatment. Whilst surgery and stereotactic radiotherapy are options, novel treatment strategies are required.
