BTOG 2023 | Biomarker testing in the UK

Sanjay Popat, BSc, MBBS, FRCP, PhD, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK, discusses biomarker testing in the UK for lung cancer, highlighting current issues with genomic testing including with the significant time frame between time of sampling and receipt of result. Prof. Popat emphasizes next generation sequencing (NGS) as the most comprehensive analysis. Pilot data on the use of ctDNA in parallel to tissue NGS demonstrated the two genomic testing modalities to be complimentary, showing a faster turnaround of the complete genomic result, resulting in a much faster time to patients starting treatment. This interview took place at the British Thoracic Oncology Group (BTOG) Annual Conference 2023 in Belfast, UK.
