Here, Ken O’Byrne, founding Chair and former President of BTOG, discusses the history of the organization, which hosted its 16th Annual Conference in 2018. Prof. O’Byrne, of Princess Alexandra Hospital & Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia, highlights the need for the group and the benefits which it has brought to the care of patients with thoracic malignancies in the UK. He reflects upon the changing practice for lung cancer care in the UK, and looks towards the future with immunotherapy combinations and removing the stigma of lung cancer as an incurable disease.
