ASCO 2024 | CHAARTED2: cabazitaxel plus abiraterone vs. abiraterone alone for metastatic CRPC

Christos Kyriakopoulos, MD, University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI, presents findings from the Phase II EA8153 (CHAARTED2) trial (NCT03419234), investigating the efficacy of combining abiraterone/prednisone with cabazitaxel in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) patients previously treated with ADT plus docetaxel for hormone-sensitive disease. Results indicate a significant improvement in progression-free survival (PFS) with the combination therapy compared to abiraterone/prednisone alone. Notably, PFS benefit was more pronounced in certain subgroups. Although no significant difference in overall survival (OS) was observed, the study was not powered for this endpoint. More adverse events were reported with the combination, consistent with cabazitaxel’s known safety profile. This interview took place during the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
