ASCO 2024 | Impact of the EMBARK trial on the management of non-metastatic prostate cancer

Stephen Freedland, MD, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA, highlights how results from the EMBARK trial (NCT02319837) impact long-term treatment strategies for patients with high-risk biochemically recurrent non-metastatic prostate cancer. Whilst a majority of trials advocate for additional and long-term treatments, patients were put on intensive hormonal therapies for 9 months in this trial, after which point more than 85% were taken off them. Despite some side effects, these therapies did not seem to impact global quality of life, and the idea that patients could be off treatment for longer than they were on them is extremely promising. This interview took place during the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
