ASCO 2024 | Disparities in care of older adults of color with cancer

Efrat Dotan, MD, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia, PA, discusses the disparities faced by older adults of color with cancer. Dr Dotan emphasizes that these disparities are even more pronounced in older patients of color, necessitating a thorough evaluation at baseline. She advocates for the use of comprehensive geriatric assessments and an understanding of social determinants of health to fully grasp the factors impacting patient care. Dr Dotan believes that incorporating these evaluations can improve outcomes, communication, quality of life, and overall patient experience during cancer treatment. This interview took place during the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
