Marco Fiore, MD, FACS, Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori di Milano, Milan, Italy, discusses the key challenges in surgically managing primary retroperitoneal liposarcoma, given its complex location. As the most common soft tissue sarcoma in the retroperitoneum, these tumors often present with significant tumor burden, sometimes reaching up to 20-30 cm in diameter. The main surgical challenge is the extent of the disease, frequently requiring a multivisceral resection, where multiple organs are removed en bloc with the tumor. These resections are major abdominal procedures, demanding high surgical expertise. This interview took place at the ESSO 43 Congress in Antwerp, Belgium.
