Piotr Rutkowski, MD, PhD, Maria Sklodowska-Curie Memorial Cancer Centre and Institute of Oncology, Warsaw, Poland, discusses the Phase II AXAGIST trial (NCT04258956), of avelumab with axitinib in patients with unresectable/metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) after standard therapy failure. The study demonstrated promising median progression-free survival and adverse events were common but manageable, indicating this combination therapy may benefit pretreated patients with GIST. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
