Wolfgang Janni, MD, PhD, University of Ulm, Ulm, Germany, discusses the second interim analysis of the Phase III DETECT V trial (NCT02344472), which evaluated chemotherapy-free options in HER2-positive, HR-positive metastatic breast cancer (mBC). The study compared dual HER2-targeted therapy with either endocrine therapy or chemotherapy, later adding ribociclib. Results show no significant difference in overall survival (OS) or progression-free survival (PFS) between the chemotherapy-free and chemotherapy-containing arms. However, adding ribociclib significantly improved both OS and PFS, suggesting it as a beneficial addition to treatment.
