ESMO 2024 | Enhancing immune checkpoint blockade with mRNA vaccines in cancer
Adam Grippin, MD, PhD, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, comments on the potential of mRNA vaccines to improve immune responses in patients undergoing immune checkpoint blockade, particularly for those who do not respond well. Personalized mRNA vaccines have demonstrated strong immune modulation and can synergize with immune checkpoint blockade to enhance outcomes. Interestingly, even mRNA vaccines that do not code for tumor antigens show promise in boosting immune responses, opening new possibilities for improving treatment efficacy in a broader range of patients. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
