Jan Theys, PhD, Maastricht University, Maastricht, Netherlands, reflects on the historical use of bacteria in cancer therapy, which dates back decades, and its convergence with immunotherapy. This exciting new era of combining bacterial approaches with immune treatments holds great potential for enhancing cancer care, merging two previously separate areas into a powerful therapeutic strategy. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
