Richard Hillegersberg, MD, PhD, UMC Utrecht, Utrecht, Netherlands, discusses the promising potential of the trans-cervical approach for esophageal surgery, especially for patients who cannot undergo transthoracic surgery. He highlights the use of The da Vinci SP, a surgical robot system from Intuitive Surgical designed for narrow spaces, which is being tested in Germany under the leadership of Peter Griminger. The approach will soon be tested in a multi-center European trial involving centers in Hamburg, Mainz, and Utrecht. This interview took place at the ESSO 43 congress in Antwerp, Belgium.
