SABCS 2024 | Should germline genetic testing be universal for patients with breast cancer?

Virginia Kaklamani, MD, UT Health San Antonio, San Antonio, TX, provides a brief overview on a debate on the widespread use of germline genetic testing for all patients with breast cancer. Currently, germline genetic testing is only recommended for patients under 65 years old with a family history of breast cancer. Universal testing would allow for early diagnosis, preventative surgeries, and earlier initiation of treatment for those with breast cancer gene mutations like BRCA1 or BRCA2. This interview took place at 2024 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) congress in San Antonio, TX.
