ASCO GI 2025 | Evaluating tumor response with ctDNA

Sakti Chakrabarti, MD, University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center, Cleveland, OH, describes the pitfalls of radiographic imaging, which often fail to accurately reflect treatment effectiveness, in tumor response assessments. The emergence of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) as a real-time biomarker provides clinicians a more precise tool for assessing therapeutic responses. With a short half-life, ctDNA levels rapidly drop when a treatment is effective. ctDNA levels may also decrease within days of treatment initiation, potentially allowing clinicians to swiftly assess efficacy, and revolutionizing early treatment decision-making and improve patient outcomes. This interview took place at the ASCO GI Cancers Symposium 2025 in San Francisco, CA.
