Alan Tan, MD, Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center, Nashville, TN, reviews findings from a recent study on circulating tumor (ctDNA) testing in metastatic renal cell carcinoma. The study highlights that while kidney cancer has been considered a poor ctDNA shedder, higher-risk metastases (e.g., liver and bone) show detectable ctDNA. This research paves the way for deeper sequencing and potential treatment de-escalation strategies based on ctDNA profiling. This interview took place at the ASCO GU Cancers Symposium 2025 in San Francisco, CA.
